THE RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS WITH BILL MEDLEY ROCK RIVERBEND CENTRE WITH THE ASO FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY
Season Sponsor: JPMorganChase Concert Sponsor: Altria Group, Inc. Media Sponsors: Time Warner Cable/News 8 Austin, Austin American-Statesman and KVET 98.1 FM
The world has never “Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’” for the distinctive sound of Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley, The Righteous Brothers. With a career that has spanned more than forty years, Bill Medley continues the phenomenon of “blue-eyed soul” in a one night only concert with the Austin Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, September 24th at Riverbend Centre.
With Medley’s rich seductive bass and Hatfield’s urgent, gospel-inflected tenor creating a unique harmonic blend, The Righteous Brothers sang with an intense depth of soul. Combined with the density of record producer Phil Spector’s “wall of sound” style, the duo defied traditional music labels, gaining play on both pop and R&B stations. Shortly before the unexpected death of Bobby Hatfield in 2003, The Righteous Brothers were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, forever acknowledging their impact on American music. Their music was branded “blue-eyed soul,” a label that has since been applied to such acts as Hall & Oates, Boz Scaggs and the late Robert Palmer.
Today, “The Righteous Brothers: A Celebration by Bill Medley” carries on the Righteous tradition while still featuring Hatfield’s undeniable imprint that produced such hits as “Unchained Melody” and “(You Are My) Soul and Inspiration.” Join Maestro Peter Bay and the Austin Symphony for an evening not to be missed.
