Tony Award-Winning Singer Diahann Carroll Debuts with Austin Symphony

Entertainment royalty comes to Austin when legendary Tony and Golden Globe Award-winning singer actress Diahann Carroll appears with the Austin Symphony Orchestra for the Sarah & Ernest Butler Pops on Saturday, February 20th. This concert is being proudly sponsored by Silicon Labs.

Ever the consummate entertainer, Diahann Carroll’s gifts are varied and dynamic. She continually astounds her fans and critics alike with her versatility and magnetism. She is one of America’s, major performing talents appearing on the Broadway stage, in motion pictures and television and as a Las Vegas headliner. A pioneer in television, she became the first black actress to star in her own series, the groundbreaking series “Julia,” as well as the first black actress to star in a prime time drama, “Dynasty.” Carroll is a Tony Award-winning Broadway actress remembered for her starring roles in Truman Capote’s “House of Flowers” as well as “No Strings,” written for her by composer Richard Rodgers. She has also starred in productions of “Agnes of God” as well as “Sunset Boulevard” as the larger than life Norma Desmond.

Ms. Carroll’s screen roles include appearances in “Carmen Jones,” “Paris Blues,” Porgy & Bess,” “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” and “Claudine,” for which she garnered her 1974 Best Actress Oscar nomination.

Diahann Carroll will present her Las Vegas-style concert with the Austin Symphony on Saturday, February 20th, 8:00 pm at the Long Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets are $19-$48.
