“Ring-a-ling, hear them ring, soon it will be Christmas Day!” On December 15th, the Austin Symphony presents its annual free Christmas Sing-Along Concert at Riverbend Centre led by guest conductor Carlton Dillard. This holiday tradition has been presented for over two decades thanks to AT&T and the City of Austin/Austin Arts Commission. Families gather each year to get into the spirit of the season by joyfully singing along with the Austin Symphony Orchestra and chorus. Scheduled guests also include Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch, Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and the big man himself, Santa Claus. It’s an evening of fun for everyone in the family. Come one, come all for this merry holiday occasion.
Everyone’s Christmas favorites will be represented. The audience (spanning from the very young to the very young at heart) will be invited to sing along with the orchestra and chorus at various times during the concert. “You will get a sentimental feeling when you hear voices singing let’s be jolly, deck the halls with boughs of holly!”
Also featured on this concert are members of the Austin Youth Orchestra, who will perform “side-by-side” with the Austin Symphony. Participating students include Torie Berkowitz, Kevin Bishop, McCaryn Bourgeois, Louis Henschen, Edward Ji, Elyssa Korban, Aaron Moseley-Saldivar, Joshua Newburger, Alex Putnam, Cameron Rehberg, Joey Richardson, Evan Ryker, Scott Smart, Michelle Suh, John Turman, Katie Waggoner, Gordon Weest, Alexa Witkowski, and Zach Yáñez. These select young people are given the opportunity to perform with a professional orchestra for this favorite holiday concert.
Admission is FREE but tickets are required for admission and will be available Tuesday, December 1st on a first-come, first-served basis at the Symphony Box Office, 9-5 pm. There is a limit of 4 tickets per family. A limited amount of tickets will also available at the George Washington Carver Museum (1165 Angelina Street). The Symphony Box Office is located at 11th and Red River (9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday) or call 476-6064 or 1-888-4-MAESTRO (toll-free).
