On Sunday, October 2nd the Austin Symphony Brass Quintet presents “Sousa on the Square,” a free concert in celebration of an exhibit at the Austin History Center, “Sounding Together: 100 Years of the Austin Symphony,” running now until February 12, 2012. The concert takes place at the Gazebo in Wooldridge Square Park, between 9th & 10th Streets at Guadalupe. Bring family and friends for this hour-long concert featuring the 5-piece Austin Symphony Brass Ensemble, showcasing the music of John Philip Sousa. Sousa and his band made frequent appearances in Austin from 1901-1928. His concerts were the epitome of a more relaxed time when families would come together for an evening of light classical music and marches.
Before and after the performance, concertgoers can cross 9th St. to visit the exhibit at the Austin History Center. The Center will be open from noon to 6 p.m.
This performance is a gift from Dr. & Mrs. Edgar Harris in celebration of the Austin Symphony’s 100th anniversary and the wonderful citizens of Central Texas.
