AUSTIN SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA PRESENTS NEW MUSIC MASH-UP,

BACH N’ BEATS

A COLLABORATION WITH ASO STRING QUARTET, HEARD PRESENTS & FOUR PHENOMENAL DJs

AUSTIN, TX – The Austin Symphony Orchestra (ASO) announces an exciting and new style of performance, one that brings classical and electronic dance music (EDM) together. Bach N’ Beats is a one-night-only mash-up concert at the historic and multi-genre indoor music venue, The Parish. At this downtown hotspot, a string quartet (two violins, viola and cello) made up of ASO musicians will perform a classical work and then one of the four DJs will do a mash-up including a variety of musical elements. This event takes place on Friday, September 28, 2018, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the renowned, award-winning Parish at 214 E. 6th Street. The four featured DJs are Chicken George, Curse Mackey, LouLou, and Shree; they will each be mixing their own style and flavor for the crowd based on the string quartet’s pieces.

DJ Chicken George (DJCG) not only upholds the cultural legacy of the legendary DJ’s that came before him, he’s transformed the art form into a global brand. His unique Jazztronica! style perfectly blends many genres of music together with a hip-hop sensibility combined with his expansive taste and knowledge of music. LouLou was born in San Jose California and raised in Paris, France. The Singer/Songwriter records and performs with Thievery Corporation, as well as Bonefur and Night Glitter.

Austin based artist Curse Mackey is best known as lead singer and sample banger of industrial super group Pigface and tribal industrial act Evil Mothers. He recently launched a solo electronic industrial/darkwave project that debuted at the Cold Waves Festival 2016 in Chicago which includes new material and revamps of classic Pigface and Evil Mothers songs. Shree, an Austin native and Longhorn, spent 8 years as a Music Educator before he moved to Dallas and founded his own music production company, LOLO. Since 2016, LOLO has grown into a record label and artist management agency. Shree has been DJing since 2012 and had his first release ‘Midnight Motive’ on Nueva Recordings in December 2017.

Wire Recording Studio, with Grammy-Award winning engineer and Austin Music Commissioner Stuart Sullivan, has donated their services to record the string quartet at the live room at the Mosaic Sound Collective, who has donated its space. Those recordings are what the DJs will sample from.

Repertoire List: JS Bach – Art of the Fugue, Contrapunctus 1 and 4; Sergei Rachmaninoff – String Quartet No. 2, Movement 2; Antonín Dvořák – American Quartet, Movement 1 ; Percy Grainger – Molly on the Shore
