The Austin Symphony welcomes 10-time Grammy® winning singers Take 6 for the opening concert of the Sarah & Ernest Butler Pops concerts, October 27 at the Long Center for the Performing Arts. This evening of close harmony and a cappella artistry is sponsored by Avende, Austin Tree Experts and Endvision.
While vocal groups surge in popularity, Take 6 continues to set the standard for a cappella groups of this generation. Their swinging, harmony-rich gospel sound has attracted a flurry of attention from some of the most notable jazz luminaries, including Quincy Jones, Ella Fitzgerald, and Stevie Wonder. Winners of 10 Grammy® Awards, 10 Dove Awards, a Soul Train Award and two NAACP Image Award nominations, Take 6 holds the distinct honor of being the most Grammy®-nominated vocal group in history.
Additional entertainment for the evening will begin at 7:30 when the Long Center’s City Terrace will ring with music provided by First United Methodist’s “Life in the City” Band. The group plays an eclectic mix of pop, hip-hop and jazz with a gospel flair.
