High School Concert Program

The full orchestra of the ASO visits a rotating set of four to five high schools each year to perform a tailored program for approximately 5,000 students (grades 9-12). The 45-minute concert features a special side-by-side interaction for outstanding band and orchestra students. ASO 2023-2024 High School Concerts, themed “Musical Transcendence: Overcoming Adversity and Resisting Oppression,” will be presented at Anderson HS, Navarro HS, Eastside HS, Crockett HS, and Hays CISD Performing Arts Center, in late January – early February 2024.

Connecting with Music: Austin Interdisciplinary Initiative

Paired with the High School Concerts program, Austin Symphony Orchestra’s Connecting with Music Initiative is a humanities-based, thematic, interdisciplinary learning initiative using the concert repertoire to explore personal, historical, and cultural connections to symphonic music. At the culmination of the project, students share original works based on a theme. The theme for this year is “Musical Resilience: Overcoming Adversity and Resisting Oppression.”
